laser came with a broken glass on topThis definitely does not have the strength equal to any 150W laser cutter, this is much closer to maybe 3-5W power. Works fine for engraving, but not for cutting. It takes multiple passes to get it to cut through most material besides maybe paper. Tried to set it up with an air assist unit and that was a huge pain, but I eventually got it working. Does OK enough for small projects but I was hoping for something more capable of cuttingI have had several laser engravers and cutters. This one is probably the most consistent unit as far as engraving on wood goes. The packaging is great, and the installation was very easy. The setup is about the same as the other ones. I am using Lightburn on a Win 10 laptop with it. The results are great once I got the feed rate and power set right. The engraving is detailed and consistent. The cutting is not quite as strong as others, though I was able to cut half inch low density wood boards. I work with mostly wood, and this little unit is great for that, except is creates a lot of smoke. It is absolutely essential to have a lot of ventilation. The unit is light and very portable. The usable space is about the size a magazine.The stepper motors, bearing and tracks are smooth and well-made. Keep in mind that this machine is constructed more towards space efficiency rather than sturdiness. So it is probably not going to take much of any abuse. For normal operation, it does not feel flimsy at all. Anyway, the price is really great. I highly recommend this unit in the crowded field of desktop laser engravers and cutters.EDIT: I came back to give this laser a five star rating because it absolutely deserves it! I was able to hook my Mac computer up to the laser, and after using it for a while I love it! Couldn't be happier with it, and even with my initial troubles I still say it's worth it! Highly Recommend!!The first thing I noticed while unboxing this Atomstack P9 M50 laser was the cracked piece of glass on top of the laser housing. I'm sure it would look really cool if it wasn't broken, and I was pretty disappointed to see mine had cracked at some point. It wasn't structural, at least I don't think so, so I carried on setting it up. When fitting the X axis onto the Y the instructions say to loosen the bolts for the wheels. Mine slipped right on without loosening anything, so the nuts were already loosened? The slot where the laser was to be put had a semi-circular bright metal spot in the middle of it (more later on that). I originally thought I got a second hand machine with the broken glass, nuts for the wheels not like the manual said, and the area of aluminum semi-circle showing, but everything else looked from the factory so I continued. Putting it together didn't take too long, and I only got confused a couple times by the instructions. The parts and pieces all look quality, and I love the appearance of it.When setting the height for the laser I noticed I couldn't get the laser dialed in like I wanted. It seemed to have a preset height, and due to my set up I needed a few millimeters. After taking the laser all the way off I realized why this was happening. The laser diode unit fits into a slot, and a screw is tightened to keep it at the designated height. Where the screw braces against is aluminum, and someone (I'm assuming quality assurance at the factory?) had tightened it down so hard they cut into the aluminum. So when I tried to get close to, but not right on that mark it would find the groove and slip into it every time. It was very frustrating, but I finally kind of figured a work around.Testing the machine with the two stock images loaded on the SD car went fine. But I've been having issues... My work laptop won't let me download laserGRBL, and our Mac is on the older side, but I loaded Lightburn just fine. Attempting to connect the Mac to the laser has still been fruitless... The included USB cable seems to fit everything just fine, but the auto-detect feature won't recognize the laser. Even when entering the laser manually it won't communicate. My other options are an android tablet, and a chrome computer, but neither of these work with LaserGRBL or Lightburn. I'm in the process of reaching out to see if I can get assistance with my issues currently.So, I haven't truly had the ability to evaluate this product on the high acuity engravings, but from the test images I've engraved I believe it will be impressive. I've spent so many hours trying to get this laser to work for me I haven't evaluated it's true purpose yet. But based on the equal amount of frustration, and amazement I've experienced I will continue to try to get this working and come back to finish my evaluation. For now, I'm trying to suspend judgement until I have all the data. Regardless how this turns out I will come back and edit this to reflect my overall rating of this product.
